PCOS Stories 12 Min Yi’s PCOS Story

Names have been changed for confidentiality

I met Min in 2010 after her and husband Jonathon had been trying to conceive on and off for 5 years. Her menstrual cycles were occurring between 8 and 10 weeks apart.

Fertility tests confirmed her PCOS diagnosis and all other fertility investigations on them both came back normal.

Because of the long duration of their infertility and Min’s PCOS… they wanted to try and conceive with a slightly more advanced fertility treatment rather than the simpler Clomiphene Citrate tablets. The decision was to try the fertility treatment called Ovulation Induction and Intra-uterine Insemination.

This was done using FSH hormone injections, while monitoring Min’s cycle for the fertile time of ovulation. At ovulation Jonathon’s semen was collected, washed and inserted into Min’s uterus.

Min and Jonathon had 2 fertility treatments with no success. They were contemplating IVF Invitro-fertilitzation treatment as the next step when they conceived naturally.

Today on Min’s ultrasound there is a single pregnancy at 8 weeks of age and a heart beat present.

This is a story I see often in my Sydney PCOS clinics… with PCOS women conceiving naturally after fertility treatment.

If you have been trying to conceive for a long time then I would recommend you see your doctor or a fertility specialist for further fertility investigations
